AN appeal went out to young people to join rehearsals for Lancashire County Schools Brass Band in December 1979.
The band had been established for more than a decade and members used Preston as their central point.
It was split into two sections - one in Poulton-le-Fylde and the other in Rawtenstall including Rossendale, Burnley, Pendle, Hyndburn, Ribble Valley, Skelmersdale and Ormskirk.
While the Poulton group attracted 65 musicians, those at Rawtenstall came to 20 as it is only getting off the ground.
Edward Hoyle, was the conductor and a member of the Goodshaw Band and he was a former player with the Lancashire Schools Brass Band.
He said: “We hope to encourage other youngsters from surrounding areas to come along and have a good blow. Travel expenses are paid by the county council.”
